$300 per mile is the planned standard sponsorship level. A mile is a symbolic sponsorship unit, not the exact cost or ownership of a physical mile.

A MODEL WITH HISTORY
THE IDEA BEGAN ON THE ELBE. THE GREAT LAKES TAKE IT FURTHER.
In 2006, Kirsten’s Elbe project offered kilometer sponsorships at €59 per kilometer. Contemporary WELT reporting connected the swim with support for children and families affected by cancer through Sonnenstrahl e.V. in Dresden and the phönikks Foundation in Hamburg.
The Great Lakes Mission takes that sponsorship idea into a wider five-year program, with a different scale of preparation and operations.
SWIM AGAINST CANCER
Mission support helps make the expedition possible. SWIM AGAINST CANCER is the purpose the mission carries forward.
Mile sponsorship and flexible mission support fund preparation and operations. They do not automatically become direct contributions to children or cancer organizations. A separate cancer-specific support route is not active; it would require an appropriate structure or partner before launch.

PART OF THE MISSION.
As the mission develops, supporters may be offered recognition on a future Wall of Supporters: a personal or family name, a company or organization, anonymous recognition, or no public recognition.
Recognition is planned, not yet available. Names would appear only by choice; amounts only with explicit consent. Sponsorship does not reserve a specific route segment or GPS mile.
BUILT FOR A FIVE-YEAR MISSION
Support is intended to help build and carry the wider five-year Great Lakes program, beginning with the planned Lake Superior chapter. It may fund preparation, safety, crew, vessels, logistics, equipment, travel and documentation across the program.
Contributions are not tied to one exact cost item, day or swim. Support arrangements and partnership commitments will be discussed individually before any payment.
